Let's be real: say "Rhône Valley" and everyone thinks red. Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes du Rhône, Grenache, Syrah… The whites get left in the shadows. Big mistake, because the South is packed with hidden gems just waiting for someone to pull the cork.
Today's star is bourboulenc. It's an old-school grape from the southern Rhône and one of the thirteen varieties allowed in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Its superpower: it takes the heat without losing its freshness. The result is a broad, deep white that still keeps its edge. Not a given in a region where the thermometer climbs high.
My brief was simple: a white with the stature of a white Châteauneuf-du-pape. Rich, generous and complex, but still lively. And above all, without draining your savings. Found it. And honestly? It delivers.
